Bio

Richard H. Lewis is a Partner in the firm’s Trusts & Estates and Private Wealth & Taxation Practice Groups. Rick handles estate planning and corporate/business transactions. He has been advising privately held businesses for more than 30 years and brings to his estate planning and business practice expertise in succession planning for family-owned and privately-held businesses.

Rick’s trusts and estates practice encompasses all aspects of personal wealth transfer planning. He works with individuals, business owners, their professional advisors and their family members, of all ages and wealth levels, across multiple generations, to achieve their estate, gift and charitable tax planning goals. He regularly handles: Preparation of wills and trusts, including Revocable Living Trusts, Life Insurance Trusts, GRATs, SLATs, Grantor Trusts and GST Dynasty Trusts; Minimization of estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer and capital gains taxes with various techniques, including the use of valuation discounts; Estate and trust administration, including probate proceedings, estate tax returns and gift tax returns, counseling fiduciaries, including post-mortem tax planning, and dealings with federal and state tax authorities.

His business transactions practice includes representing buyers and sellers in negotiated stock and asset purchases; preparation of stockholders and partnership agreements, LLC operating agreements and buy-sell agreements.

Rick dedicates his time to his community, having served for many years on the board of directors of the regional division of a national not-for-profit organization devoted to land, water and fisheries conservation.
