Labor & Employment Associate
Our Labor & Employment group is an integral component to the human resource chain and the first stop before taking action that impacts the employee – employer relationship. Our Labor & Employment group seeks an associate attorney with 3 years of employment litigation (including wage & hour and discrimination matters) and compliance experience.
The candidate must be able to independently handle and litigate a discrimination and/or wage & hour cases and have a working knowledge of all aspects of these areas of the law. The candidate will be expected to handle litigation from inception through resolution. The foregoing includes drafting an answer, drafting all discovery demands and responses, conducting and defending depositions, making the requisite court appearances, drafting motions and arguing same in federal or state court, and conducting expert discovery. First chair trial experience is not required, but is a significant advantage (for the candidate). While the candidate’s work will be reviewed as necessary, the candidate will be primarily responsible for his/her own caseload.
An ideal candidate will also have experience in advising clients on numerous compliance matters, including employee discipline and discharge, employee benefits and related handbook and policy drafting, federal and state wage and hour laws and employee compensation, employee leave and reasonable accommodation issues (including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Family and Medical Leave Act compliance). The candidate must be admitted to practice in New York, as well as the Federal Court (at least Eastern and Southern Districts of New York). Although Meltzer Lippe exclusively represents management clients, management-side experience is not required and the candidate may come from plaintiff or management-side practice.
Mid-Level Tax Associate
Meltzer Lippe is currently seeking to hire a graduate with an LLM in taxation. Areas of practice include domestic and international tax planning for high net worth individuals, closely held businesses, investment real estate, sales, exchanges, lease and property refinancing. IRC Section 1031 tax-free exchanges, installment sales, long term lease agreements and sale-leasebacks.
