Avi Z. Kestenbaum, Co-Chair of Meltzer Lippe’s Trusts & Estates practice group will be a speaker at the Trust & Estates Virtual Forum: Passing Along Valued Family Real Estate.

Wealthy individuals tend to have extraordinary homes in desirable locations where they’ve made many special memories together as a family. Often, the generation currently in control of the property wishes to have it remain in the family on their death, for the benefit of future generations. Future generations may or may not wish to retain the property or to share in the maintenance and other costs associated with its use. Families with more than one individual in the inheriting generation may find it impossible to achieve unanimity in decision making. As a result, what was meant to be a boon to the family (continued enjoyment of the special property) becomes a bane. This panel will discuss some practical considerations to take into account when seeking to meet the needs and expectations of families with unique properties.
