Bio

Eric Szkarlat is an Associate in the firm’s Litigation Department, focusing on high-stakes commercial matters.

Eric brings a depth and breadth of knowledge of several of the most prominent courts relevant to his practice. Immediately prior to joining Meltzer Lippe, Eric served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Katharine H. Parker, U.S.M.J., in the Southern District of New York. He also served as a Commercial Division Law Clerk to the Honorable Joel M. Cohen, J.S.C., in New York’s prestigious Commercial Division, and as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Avis Bishop-Thompson, J.A.D., in the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court.

Eric earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where he was recognized for his selfless dedication to Fordham’s Moot Court Board and served as a member of the Fordham Law Review. He published two case comments with the Law Review, focusing on the U.S. Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Fourteenth and Fourth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. He also worked as a Research Assistant to the author of a leading international securities law treatise and as a Teaching Assistant for Professor Jed Shugerman’s Legislation and Regulation course. As a law firm intern, he supported a federal civil rights trial in which the firm secured a favorable verdict recognized as the largest prison brutality verdict in the Eastern District of New York in 2022. Eric was also awarded the Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award, magna cum laude, for his pro bono work with Fordham’s Legislative and Policy Advocacy Clinic, the Legal Aid Society, and other organizations.

Eric earned dual bachelor’s degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he studied English Literature and Theatre, concentrating in Performing Arts Management and minoring in Music. Prior to law school, he taught middle school Reading and Writing and worked in management at several major performing arts institutions in New York City. Outside the office, he enjoys attending live performances, hiking, and rewatching The Lord of the Rings films.
